Punjab Cabinet

Punjab News: Even before the Ludhiana West by-election results are out, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) appears confident about its prospects. Internal party sources have revealed that preparations for a cabinet expansion are already in motion. There is strong speculation that if AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora secures a victory, his induction into the cabinet is almost confirmed. Insiders suggest that Arora could be handed a significant portfolio, signaling the party’s intent to boost administrative efficiency. In addition to Arora, one more MLA may also find a spot in the council of ministers.

Two Faces Set for Elevation

Party insiders hint that the cabinet expansion announcement is likely to be made between June 25 and June 28. This timeline has added to the buzz within political and bureaucratic circles. With the AAP seeking to consolidate power and refine its governance strategy, the expansion is being seen as a strategic move to accommodate regional and performance-based representations. The reshuffle is expected to address both political optics and internal performance reviews.

Doaba May Regain Ministerial Representation

A notable focus of the upcoming cabinet reshuffle is the Doaba region. Earlier, Balkar Singh had been appointed from Doaba, but controversies led to his removal. Now, sources say a new face from Doaba could be added to restore the region’s representation in the cabinet. This move is also likely to counter regional dissatisfaction and balance the political narrative ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. The party is said to be evaluating multiple candidates for the spot, keeping in mind caste and regional equations.

Major Portfolios May Be Reassigned

This cabinet shakeup is not limited to inducting new faces. Existing ministers may also see their portfolios changed. Around three to four ministers are expected to have their departments reshuffled. This move is aimed at enhancing departmental performance and injecting fresh energy into governance. AAP’s central leadership is reportedly reviewing individual ministers’ progress reports before finalizing the portfolio realignments.

Sanjeev Arora Likely to Get Powerful Department

If Sanjeev Arora wins the Ludhiana West by-election, he is likely to be rewarded with a powerful department. Sources claim the party is considering him for ministries that hold weight in policy implementation and visibility, such as urban development or industry. This would not only boost Arora’s political profile but also send a message about the party’s confidence in capable newcomers. It’s part of a broader strategy to groom second-tier leadership for future responsibilities.
